Way
<<route through life>>
A way or pathway leads to a destination. Jesus is the only way that leads to the Father who is the desirable destination (Jn 14:6). Jesus said many to try to enter heaven by their own methods, yet all these alternative approaches are deceptions of Satan and ultimately lead to eternal damnation. In ourselves we do not have the ability to walk in His ways, this is why He has given us the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to guide us (Ps 119:105; Jer 10:23; Jn 16:13; 1 Cor 6:19). The way of salvation is to humbly repent of sin and receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour from sin and fully trust in Him alone as our efforts are futile (Mk 1:15; Act 3:19; Eph 2:8,9).
We only have limited understanding as we progress through life thus it is essential to have hearing ears and a sensitive heart so “I being on the way, the Lord led me” (Gen 24:27). When we are actively doing what He has instructed us to do, further directions will be given indicating “This is the way, walk in it” (Isa 30:21). David prayed, “Show me your ways, O Lord…” for “Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the laws of the Lord” (Ps 25:4, 119:1-5). His advice is entrust your self to the Lord for His control and guidance and He will outwork His plans for you (Ps 37:5, 138:8).
Wisdom when applied will keep us on the right path, away from the way of evil (Prov 2:10-15,20). The early Christians were known as people who “belonged to the Way” (Act 9:2). Does my life radiate this distinctive difference compared to those around me who are not believers? The recurring theme of Proverbs is do not go the evil route, instead examine your path, and take only ways that are right, then you will experience God’s favour (Prov 4:11-27, 15:9, 21:29). This will require serious self-discipline andnot yielding to peer pressure to remain faithful to God. Remember we will be accountable to God for how we have lived compared to His standard (Rom 14:12; 2 Cor 5:10; Heb 4:13).
“The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice” (Prov 12:15, 16:2). God says, let the wicked forsake their ways, (they are vastly different to His) for He is not pleased when people die in their sin, rather He desires they turn from their evil ways and live (Isa 55:7-9; Ezek 33:11). God says to us all, “Give careful [and ongoing] thought to your ways” (Hag 1:7). The promise of Scripture is, ‘If we will…then He will…’ so “Trust in the Lord…In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct you” (Prov 3:6).
“Train up a child in the way they should go…” (Prov 22:6). Walking the ways of God requires effort, diligence and discipline to make right, obedient decisions. Our choices determine the way we go, and the destination we arrive at.
Walk in my ways – God
The Bible asks, "How can a young man keep his way pure?" Then provides the answer "By living according to your word" (Ps 119:9). This is the same means available to all believers — accepting God’s Word and letting it continue to do its work in us as we obey it's teachings (Ps 1:2, 119:11,15,97; 1 Thes 2:13; 2 Tim 2:15).
