Samaria
This city became the capital of the Northern Kingdom (Israel) until it was conquered by Assyria about 722 BC (1 Kgs 16:23,24; 2 Kgs 17:5,6). Later, during the time of Christ, it was both a city and a major province (Act 8:5). The Jews had a general dislike for the people of this region, yet this location was specifically mentioned by Jesus when He said to His followers they were to be His witnesses (Act 1:8). Later it is recorded they "preached the gospel in many Samaritan villages" (Act 8:25). God’s message of salvation extends to all and we are to be obedient to His directions.
