This American who lived 1703-1758 spent much time as a missionary to the native tribes. He was a ‘fire and brimstone’ preacher and the clarity of his writing shows up in his prolific books. His most famous sermon was titled, ‘Sinners in the hands of an angry God’. He was a key figure in what is called the First Great Awaking of the 1730 and 1740’s in America.
Quotes attributed to him, “Resolution one: I will live for God. Resolution two: if no one else will, I still will’; ‘Prayer is as natural an expression of faith as breathing is of life’.
