Buddhism

<<an eastern religion>>

A false religion whose leader was Buddha or ‘enlightened one’ that emerged in India some 2,500 years ago and has many beliefs similar to those of Hinduism, including yoga and reincarnation. Having some 376 million adherents, it is placed fourth after Christianity, Islam and Hinduism.

Central to their teaching is that right thinking, ritual sacrifices and self-denial will enable the soul to reach nirvana, the place of eternal bliss. Buddhists strive to please their gods with constant chants, rituals and sacrifices having as their ultimate goal ‘enlightenment’ as they perceive it.
